MSU Quality Measurement Tool: SDK

SDK

Since version 1.2 MSU Video Quality Measurement Tool supports plugins.

In MSU VQMT, each metric has following properties:

  1. Amount of input videos (currently only 1 or 2 input video are supported)
  2. Structure of output values (metric can have any amount of output numbers)
  3. Configuration abilities (metric can be configured with a string)

PSNR is the simplest example of a metric. It has 2 input frames, returns only one value that corresponds to both frames and is not configurable. But some metrics have much more complicated structure: for instance, when visualization is enabled for Blurring metric, it gets two frames as input and returns one value for each frame.

MSU VQMT handles metric as follows:

  • Metric instance is created. Lifetime of one instance is one measurement of a pair (or one) of films. For example, if you compare with PSNR video O to videos A1 and A2, two instances of metric are created: first one to compare O and A1, second one to compare O and A2.
  • Metric is initialized with information about frame sizes and selected colorspace.
  • At this point, metric can reserve a number of identifiers (ID). Metric should take one ID for each return value. For example, PSNR has only one ID, and Blurring measure with visualization enabled has two IDs. It is possible to point which ID corresponds to which frames.
  • Metric is measured: it is consequrently called on video frames.
  • Average result is obtained from metric.
  • Metric instance is destroyed.

For more details on how this interaction happens, see SDK documentation.

Public MSU video filters
Here are available VirtualDub and AviSynth filters. Commonly we develop a whole family of some kind of a filter. Generally there are also versions optimized for PC and hardware implementations (ASIC/FPGA/DSP). These optimized versions can be licensed to companies. Please contact us for details via video(at)graphics.cs.msu_ru.
MSU filters for companies
We are working with Intel, Samsung, RealNetworks and other companies on adapting our filters other video processing algorithms for specific video streams, applications and hardware like TV-sets, graphics cards, etc. Some of such projects are non-exclusive. Also we have internal researches. Please let us know via video(at)graphics.cs.msu_ru if you are interested in acquiring a license for such filters or making a custom R&D project on video processing, compression, computer vision.
